16th Sunday after Trinity

In our reading today we hear that the last will be first and the first will be last. This parable can be one that Is hard to understand. Growing up and even now I have always worked to be first. I am sure many of you have worked at being the "best" in various activities.

Yet in our reading we hear that the first will be last. In the gospels we normally hear the last being first in amongst Jesus. He heals the sick, forgives those who sin, and welcomes those who are on the margins of society.

In this parable Jesus levels out the playing field for us all then in this last shall be first and first shall be last understanding we can see that we are are equal in the light of God's love.
