Corpus Christi

The church celebrated Corpus Christ this past Thursday. On this day we give thanks for the institution of Holy Communion. In our reading for today we hear Jesus saying he is the true bread sent down from heaven and that whomever shall eat this bread will live forever.

I have always enjoyed singing the hymn "I am the bread of life" which in its rousing refrain rings out "And I will raise you up on the last day". This song has always brought comfort to me in times of trouble and crisis. I sang this song in our short service below and even in that moment I felt a sense of God's peace and presence. I pray that we can always remember that in sharing one bread and one cup we make up one body of believers here on earth so that one day we too will be raised up on the last day.

Time for reflection

After watching the short service above, spend some time reflecting on these questions.

Think of a meal that you remember as a very special time.

Who was with you?

What was the occasion?

What made it especially memorable?

Look at the picture of The Last Supper.

Which one do you think is Jesus?

How many disciples are there?

Which one do you think is Judas?

What do you think Jesus has just said to them?

Prayer Dear Lord, we thank you for the special times we share with our families and friends. Thank you for the food we enjoy and the fun we have. Amen.

Activity: EASY Bread making

description

This quick naan recipe requires no yeast — so you don’t need to let it rise, and can have naan in a jiffy! Easy, and tasty! Make it together as a family and send any pictures along to ramond.annunciationmarblearch@gmail.com

ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3/4 tsp baking powder

  • 2 tsp oil (I used olive, you could use anything relatively mild)

  • 1/2 cup* milk

  • butter

instructions

  1. Combine all dry ingredients, and whisk together.

  2. Create a well in the middle of the dry ingredients, and add the oil and milk. Mix everything together until it forms a ball. Turn out on the counter and knead until very smooth and elastic — at least 5 minutes — adding more flour as necessary.

  3. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. Divide into 8-10 equal pieces.

  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Roll one piece of dough until very thin (less than 1/8″). If the skillet isn’t non-stick, melt some butter before each piece. One at a time, cook the naan for about 90 seconds, or until parts are blackening, on each side. When they are done, you can brush them with butter and add seasonings (cilantro, garlic, etc.), if you want.
